Before we start - a bit of info that may help:)

Most of our recipes can be made with a simple hand blender, however if you want to blend in 'harder' ingredients or ice, then usually a more highly powered blender will be required.

Some of our recipes call for a juicer to juice ingredients before adding them to the smoothie. If you do not have a juicer we recommend you consider getting one as they are great fun, and juicing is a great way to get lots of quality nutrition. We feel that cleaning them is a small price to pay for this, and is actually quite easy if attempted as soon after making the juice as possible (before any pulp has dried on!). There are a wide range of juicers on the market, ranging from cheaper centrifugal juicers through to more expensive masticating juicers.

If necessary fresh bought juices can be substituted, although we recommend choosing not-from-concentrate and sugar free varieties :)

As always please use our recipes as a guide and get creative with your own ideas to suit your taste buds. If you come up with a winning combination, please share it - just post it in the 'Gelateria Lounge', or contact us here.

Have fun :)

Mango and mint smoothie

This a lovely fresh and summery one :)

Equipment required:
  • Knife and chopping board
  • Blender
Ingredients:
  • 1 large or 2 small-medium ripe mangoes
  • Up to 10 fresh mint leaves
How to:
  • Remove the flesh from the mango(es), chop and place in the blender.
  • Blend until smooth.
  • Add the mint leaves one at a time. Blend very well and taste as you go until you have a taste that you are happy with, and enjoy :)

THG Tip:

This recipe requires a blender that is powerful enough to break up the mint leaves well - to release their flavour and produce a smooth result. Mint goes well with many fruits, so let your creativity run wild :)

To remove the flesh from a mango carefully score the skin all the way around in two directions at right angles to each other, and then peel the skin away from the flesh. If the mango is ripe enough this will be easy to do. Once the skin is removed carefully (it may be a bit slippery!) cut down either side of the flat central stone to release most of the flesh. Then remove the remainder of the flesh from the stone itself :)

Berry Banana

This one is really great for breakfast :)

Equipment required:

  • Blender/hand blender

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of mixed berries - we like forest fruits, including blackcurrants, black grapes, blackberries and blueberries.
  • 1-2 ripe bananas

How to:

  • Break the bananas into the blender (or beaker if using a hand blender) and blend until smooth.
  • Add the berries and blend again until smooth and evenly mixed.
  • If it is a little too thick for you then add some fresh water or freshly squeezed orange juice.
  • Enjoy!

THG Tip:

This recipe also works well with frozen berries. Simply defrost the berries and blend them with the banana in their own juice (there is usually no need to add extra juice or water, but it depends how thick you like your smoothies - so customise your recipe to your satisfaction!)

Carrot, Mango and Apple

This is delicious :)

Equipment required:

  • Knife and chopping board
  • Juicer
  • Blender/hand blender

Ingredients:

  • 1 large sweet apple (we like Jonagold or Braeburn)
  • 2-3 carrots
  • 1 large ripe mango

How to:

  • Chop the apple and carrots into pieces that will fit your juicer and juice them
  • Remove the flesh from the mango and blend this with the carrot and apple juice until smooth
  • Drink s-l-o-w-l-y!

THG Tip:

If your carrots and apple are not organic then peel them before juicing, as many pesticides get concentrated in the skin. Try adding a small piece of fresh ginger when making the carrot and apple juice to warm things up a bit!
