Blog Entry: Hello It feels a little strange to be writing this as I've never blogged before, and this is a new experience. To begin with I would like to explain why my username is Shoes - just in case anyone is wondering! When I was a baby my older sister (then a toddler) couldn't say Shona properly, so she called me Shoes, and it has stuck ever since.:) The last week has gone quickly since the launch party on Saturday 8th November. We had about 50 children and parents from Jana's school come to a fun ice cream party at the local village hall. Much fun was had by all and my parents were a great help both in the kitchen and with games. Many parents also stayed behind afterwards to help tidy up, which I was very touched and grateful for:) We had Velvet Honey Vanilla, Chocolacado and Autumn Berry Banana frozen treats, icluding 4 gelato cakes - a butterfly, rabbit, cat and Bugs Bunny! The Autumn Berry Banana sorbet went down particularly well, and so I will post the recipe this week as the kid's recipe of the week:) There was an issue about taking photos at the party for child protection purposes, and also the camera I had ordered weeks ago to take pictures with didn't arrive until Monday!, so we have limited pictures. However, Jana and I did take some once the camera had arrived, and here they are: The rest of the week has been a hotchpotch of taking steps to let more people know about thehappyG (as we affectionately call it) and keeping up with domestic happenings. We have had some plumbing problems which have been quite comical, and Jana has a Ballet Grade2 exam this afternoon. Last night we had a bit of rehearsal in her bedroom which was fun! Also, I have just returned from something called the School for The Work of Byron Katie, which is a nine day school during which we learn to gently question our thoughts that bring us stress, to see if they are true for us or not. This was a powerful and humbling experience for me and I have returned with an impulse to simplify my life and give of myself as much as I possibly can - which is where my true heart lies. Exactly how this will come about is not clear yet, and I can wait! It was so good to touch base with what is really important to me - caring, friendship, peace, humanity and love; and to let myself value them. I have contacted a local volunteer group who have put me in touch with a help the aged centre looking for help in their kitchen - so watch this space! I'll sign off just now. Speak again soon. with love, Shoes x
