Smoothies are one of our all time favourite foods. They are easy and fun to make, are a great way to give ourselves loads of quality nutrition and are incredibly versatile.

Homemade smoothies are especially nutritious as they are incredibly fresh. We also get to be creative and ‘hands on’ with our food, which is fun and helps us value taking care of ourselves in this way.

Jana is not always keen on the texture of smoothies, but she does like them frozen. Many of our recipes are suitable for freezing as they are (eg. as ice lollies), or for making into gelato or sorbet.

Smoothies are great all year round and can incorporate much locally produced and seasonal produce. We particularly like to go berry picking in the summer months here in the UK - delicious raspberries and strawberries, blackberries and blackcurrants. If you’re lucky enough to live in or near the country wild blackberries from clean areas are a real treat!

We sometimes love to add extra nutrition to our smoothies (and it is so easy to do this) in the form of ‘super foods’ such as hemp seeds (great source of protein and omega fatty acids), goji berries (full of antioxidants and amino acids), and lots of greens (very alkalising for our bodies). Our favourite greens are sunflower sprouts and baby spinach. Herbs such as mint and basil also work well in some recipes. Greens and sprouts are easy and fun to grow at home - for kids and adults alike!

Smoothie eBook

We are currently in the process of creating an eBook to share with you our favourite recipes, including a guide to using super foods, and growing sprouts and greens. We hope it helps inspire you to give smoothies a try at home!

Please return in a while to view our eBook or, if you receive our 'Sweet Helpings' weekly newsletter, we'll let you know when the eBook is available :)
